Job Description:

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Coordinator of Preschool Services ensures that the students enrolled in our pre-school receive all the services mandated in the education plans that accompany each child when they are placed with the Cantalician Center by a school district. The Coordinator is responsible for the operation and administration of all preschool classrooms. The Coordinator is committed to sustaining high quality early education programs that value partnerships with families, staff, and community organizations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Leadership

  • Coordinates, develops, monitors, and evaluates the effectiveness of the instructional program, the IEP placement, and mandated services of new and current students in the preschool with parents, teachers, therapists, county, and district representatives, members of the School Leadership team.
  • Review all lesson plans and tracking sheets of preschool teachers.
  • Participates in IEP planning and review as appropriate.
  • Attends CPSE meetings as needed.
  • Provides care and services to promote a safe environment for students and staff.
  • Implements curriculum which maximizes integration opportunities
  • In conjunction with the Behavior Coordinator, develops, monitors and evaluates consistent strategies for managing students with the most challenging behaviors in a deterring and therapeutic manner that does not allow disruption of the norms of the school and the learning of other students
  • Utilize Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP) procedures.
  • Works collaboratively with partners and stakeholders to assure that preschool instruction and activities are fully integrated.
  • Coordinates and participates in staff development and training.

Operations

  • Responds to inquiries of staff, counties, and districts, including but not limited to conflicts in community relationships and parental requests that may result in some negative impact and/or liability if not appropriately addressed.
  • Attends supervisory meetings with Administration.
  • Implements policies, procedures, assigned programs and/or projects for the purpose of providing directions and/or complying with mandated requirements and Cantalician Center policies and procedures.
  • Manages the building, equipment, and material resources related to the pre-school services.
  • Review all student incident / injury reports.
  • Maintains an educational philosophy and school climate which encourages a cooperative and participating attitude on the part of all staff.
  • Represents the school within community and member district forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and/or issues related to the school environment.
  • Constantly maintains high professional standards at work with regard to personal behavior and interactions with staff, students, parents, districts and counties.
  • Consistently complies with all agency policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Education.

Staffing and Personnel

  • Responsible for the supervision, assignment, and evaluation of teachers, teacher assistants, and others as assigned.
  • Participates in the selection process of new hires.
  • Assigns substitutes and room coverage on a daily basis.
  • Monitors time off requests to ensure adequate classroom coverage.
  • Monitors compliance with on-site and off-site policies and procedures pertaining to, but not limited to: incident reporting, quality assurance regulations, fire safety and employee conduct.
  • Participates in school planning and service development.
  • Assist the Agency with public relations and general efforts to increase community awareness of our programs and services.

  • High level of knowledge of educational principles, especially those that apply to students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current literature and trends relating to the profession.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • Minimum: Master’s Degree in Education with at least five (5) years experience in teaching special education or in teaching early childhood or related experience/field.
  • Preferred: Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership with at least five (5) years experience in teaching special education in a preschool setting or in teaching early childhood or related experience/field.
  • A valid New York State Certification
  • Valid New York State driver license
  • Must have a vehicle for travel.
  • Must pass a criminal background check, which may include fingerprinting.
  • Must undergo a post-offer pre-employment drug test, prior to the commencement of employment.
