Job Description:

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Vocational Trainer provides direct individualized work skills training and work supervision to a small group of individuals receiving services (hereinafter referred to as "individuals"). The Vocational Trainer works with the Community Employment Planners in developing, implementing, and tracking individual pre-vocational goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists the individuals in developing work skills, habits and attitudes.
  • Orients individuals to work situations and trains such individuals in the performance of specified work tasks
  • Monitors quality and precision of work produced to ensure conformance with job specifications.
  • Observes monitors and records individuals’ progress in skills development in relation to service plan objectives.
  • Adapts work methods to meet individuals needs
  • Provides daily documentation for Pre-Voc goals, monthly Pre-Voc notes and meets regularly with individuals’ rehabilitation counselors in compliance with regulatory requirements and Agency standards.
  • Attends production staff meetings.
  • Participates in inter-disciplinary meetings as needed.
  • Designs and/or assist in building adaptive jigs and fixtures as necessary, to facilitate production.
  • Assigns individuals receiving services to production tasks based on needs.
  • On a daily basis records time and production completed by individuals to Coordinator of Production, ensuring that such is accurate, complete and signed.
  • Monitors quantity and quality control procedures to ensure conformance with job specifications.
  • Sets up specific job tasks and work areas.
  • Familiarity with health and safety requirements and regulations ensuring that individuals receiving services are at all times supervised in the warehouse and any hazardous or unauthorized areas.
  • Participates in Agency in-service, staff meetings, and general leadership meetings and training.
  • Obtains and returns product from the warehouse.
  • Loads and unloads trucks.
  • Operates forklift, electrical hand trucks and other equipment upon completion of requisite training.
  • Utilizes Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP) procedures when necessary.
  • Transports individuals to and from program.
  • Consistently complies with all Agency policies and procedures.
  • Constantly maintains high performance standards at work with regard to personal behavior and interactions with staff, individuals and outside agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Moderate level of written and oral communication skills
  • Moderate level of interpersonal skills
  • Extensive knowledge of behavioral techniques and developmental disabilities to assist in the care of individuals
  • Knowledge of computer and ability to utilize word processing programs
  • First Aid, AAA Safe Driver Training and SCIP training will be provided upon hire
  • New York State Driver’s License in good standing, Proof of Auto Insurance and New York State Registration

EDUCATION & TRAINING

Preferred: Associate’s Degree plus two years experience in production or manufacturing and/or work with the developmentally disabled population and valid New York State driver’s license in good standing.

Minimum: High school graduate or GED and valid New York State driver’s license in good standing.
